About Me

Maya Bea Scott-Luib (they/she) is a mixed Filipino-Jewish actor, singer, and comedian from Brooklyn, NY.

RECENTLY:

Maya was in Huntington Theatre’s production of Fun Home the Musical, Boston, MA. as the Medium Alison and Joan understudy (Directed by Logan Ellis).

Maya has recently received a BFA in Theatre Arts, with a Concentration in Music Theatre from Boston University’s School of Theatre. Maya is also an alumnus of Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School’s Drama Department and the Accademia dell’Arte in Italy, majoring in Physical Theatre.

As an actor, Maya strives for vulnerability and depth in every character they take on. Be it in a sketch comedy or a Sondheim show, Maya is most drawn towards theatre that uses comedy as a weapon in combating tragedy.

Maya Bea began acting at age 8, through taking improv comedy classes. They have since maintained their passion for improv and comedy by studying improv and sketch at the Upright Citizens’ Brigade and the Second City. They have also studied at the Accademia dell’Arte (ADA), a Physical Theatre study abroad program, where they trained intensively in Clowning and Commedia dell’Arte. Since their freshman year of college, Maya was also a member of “Spontaneous Combustion,” the BU School of Theatre’s audition-based improv troupe.

In addition to their adoration for comedy, they are also a trained musical theatre singer, with a wealth of experience in choir and ensemble singing. Through their time with the Young People’s Chorus of NYC, beginning at 12 years old, Maya Bea had the pleasure of working alongside Meredith Monk for Lincoln Center’s production of Dancing Voices, performing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and being in the Lincoln Center production of Bernstein’s MASS.

In Maya’s free time, when they are not typing away at their computer, writing in third person on a Squarespace website, you can find them in their room writing and singing indie-folk-rock songs on their acoustic guitar :)

“Maya is a tour-de-force actor who leads with strength, warmth, and a whole lot of heart. Their work, whether speaking or singing, is thorough, with attention to detail in all aspects of their preparation.”

- Dr. Harry Castle, Assistant Prof. of Music Theatre at Boston University.
